Altar and Rosary Society

Ladies of the Parish,

The work of the Altar & Rosary Society began with the care and maintenance of the Altar of the church, but our mission has grown to include a variety of activities and ministries that greatly impact our parish and community. Our organization provides the Altar Bread and Altar Wine, Devotional and Altar Candles, and Funeral Lunches for the families of deceased parishioners. In addition, we support Catholic Education through the Bright Futures Fund, The Parkville Women’s Clinic, and an apartment at Hillcrest Traditional Housing. This past year we also adopted a room at Journey House, a home for women transitioning out of prison. The parish depends on Altar & Rosary to augment funding and/or serve as ambassadors for specific events. The Parish has always been able to count on the ladies of Altar & Rosary to assist wherever and whenever needed.

Our fundraising projects (the Cinnamon Bread Bake, Ice Cream Social Raffle, and this past year we hosted a spring concert) provide us with our largest means of monetary support, and volunteers are always needed and appreciated! These activities also serve as a wonderful source of fellowship and fun, and we truly welcome your participation. We also provided funding to purchase materials for the Parish’s Religious Education programs, purchase the large green Ordinary Time banners, and provided funds to the Parkville Women’s clinic and The Platte City Police Chaplain’s Assistance Fund.

All women 18 and over are invited to attend meetings held on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Wooldridge Center. These gatherings are a great way to learn more about the various ministry opportunities and see what works best for your schedule and skills!

Paper membership forms are available in Our Lady’s Gift Shop. You may return it through mass collections, to the Parish Office, or at Our Lady’s Gift Shop, along with your membership donation of $20. We also offer an option for online donation and membership sign-up at www.sttheresenorth.com/altar-and-rosary-society. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call or text me at 316.641.4955 or email me at awbentley01@outlook.com.

“What matters in life is not great deeds, but great love.” These are the words of St. Therese, the patron saint of our parish. During her life, she taught “a spirituality of doing the ordinary, with extraordinary love.” By participating in the Altar & Rosary Society’s ministries and outreach, you too can show extraordinary love doing ordinary things. We ask that you consider joining us this year!

In faith and friendship,

Amanda Bentley, President

The St. Therese Altar & Rosary Society is a service ministry for Parish women that helps to address specific needs such as maintaining the altar and the Sacristy as well as supporting the parish community.

The Society  seeks to promote Catholic charity, the love of God and our neighbor, and Catholic family life by fostering love for the house of God and labor for its proper adornment and cleanliness, promoting frequent attendance at Mass, reception of Holy Communion, and devotion to the Blessed Virgin, our patroness, through recitation of the Rosary, ensuring the immediate needs of the altar and supplying the needs of the Sacristy, and maintaining membership in the Diocesan and National Council of Catholic Women.

All women of the Parish over the age of 18 are considered Associate Members. They are invited to become Active Members by completing a membership form each year at the end of August. A donation of $20 is asked, but not required.

Active Members are invited to join one or more of the Society’s ministries or to bake or volunteer for events as each is able.
