St. Therese Church St. Vincent dePaul Society

St. Therese Conference

  Conference Information

The St. Therese Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society has been active in providing for the emergency needs of Platte County families since 1961.  We are an all-volunteer organization providing assistance with food, rent, utilities, medical bills and other basic needs to the many Platte County families that call our office every day.  All of our funding comes from donations.  Most of our donations come from St. Therese Parishioners who support us with their monthly envelope dropped in the collection basket.

Office and Food Pantry

The St. Vincent de Paul Office and Food Pantry are located in the basement of St. Therese Church behind the Wooldridge Center kitchen.  The best entrance is through the brown double doors next to the Parish Office.  The St. Therese Food Pantry is open Monday-Friday from 10AM-12PM.  Clients may schedule a visit to the pantry by calling the St. Vincent de Paul office at 741-8661 for an appointment.  Our pantry distributed over 13,000 bags of groceries last year.

Families may visit the food pantry once a month.  Our pantry is open to any family in Platte County that can establish the need for food assistance by answering some basic questions about household income and expenses.  All information about clients is strictly confidential.

Financial Assistance

The St. Vincent de Paul Society provides financial assistance to Platte County families short on funds to pay rent, utility bills, medication or other basic need expenses.  Last year, our financial assistance to nearly 700 families totaled almost $100,000.  Families seeking assistance please call our St. Vincent de Paul Office at 741-8661 and answer some basic questions about household income and expenses.  All information is kept strictly confidential.  If it appears that the St. Vincent de Paul Society will be able to assist the family, two of our volunteers will call the family to schedule a home visit to discuss the matter further and make a recommendation for payment.

Due to limited resources, our Society has some limitations on the frequency and the total amount of assistance that a family can receive from our organization in any given year.

Volunteers

We are always in need of volunteers to assist in our ministry.  We have a variety of ways to volunteer:  home visit clients who ask for aid (with a partner), assist in the food pantry, assist in picking up perishable food from area grocery stores, assist in the St. Vincent de Paul office.  Please call us at 741-8661 to discuss volunteering.

Financial Donations

Our Society is completely dependent on financial contributions from our community.  Cash or Checks made payable to the St. Vincent de Paul Society may be dropped in the collection basket or mailed to our office at 7207 NW Highway 9, Kansas City, MO., 64152.

In November of each year, our organization makes a plea to St. Therese Parish for financial contributions designated for our food pantry.  Financial contributions can be made for the food pantry at any time of year by designating “food pantry” on the check.

Matching Contributions

Many corporations will match the donations their employees make to a qualified charity.  We have received many matching contributions.  Please check with your employer.

Memorials

Many donors choose to honor a deceased family member or friend by making a memorial donation to our organization.  An acknowledgement is sent to the family of the deceased as well as the donor.

Also, many donors choose to make a donation to our organization in lieu of purchasing a holiday gift or other special occasion remembrance.  An acknowledgement is provided for the gift recipient as well as the donor.

Non-financial Donations:  Vehicles

We are happy to accept donations of used vehicles in working condition even if minor repairs need to be made.  We do not have the resources to accept vehicles that cannot be driven or that need extensive repair work.  Call our office at 741-8661 to discuss.  We provide all necessary receipts and documents for tax deduction.

Clothing and Household Goods

Donations of gently used clothing or household goods and furniture may be made by calling the St. Vincent de Paul office at 741-8661.  Most items are given to the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.   We provide a receipt for tax deduction.
