Home of two Fox 4 Television's Crystal Apple Award winning teachers: Christy Hild. The award is given to outstanding teachers in the metro KC area.
For the past 14 years, FOX 4 WDAF-TV has recognized outstanding educators in the Kansas City metropolitan area through the FOX 4 Crystal Apple Award campaign. All of us have known a truly great teacher – an educator who taught more than what was in the textbooks, and brought learning to life inside and outside of the classroom. These teachers have made an impact on our lives that extends from the schools to the community in which we live. It’s because of teachers like this that WDAF-TV began the FOX 4 Crystal Apple Award in 1995.
As of today, approximately 90 extraordinary teachers have received the FOX 4 Crystal Apple Award and exposure on FOX 4 NEWS. Thousands more have been given the gift of knowing how much they are appreciated by receiving a copy of their nomination certificate. A panel of involved citizens and community leaders selected four winners for the prestigious award this year. On behalf of FOX 4, congratulations to this year’s first Crystal Apple Award Winner, Christy Hild!
FOX 4 News was at St. Therese today to give this prestigious award to Mrs. Hild. We gathered all of our students in the Great Commons for an assembly this morning. It will be televised on Monday morning, April 13th during the morning news (5:00, 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00) and during the evening news. Please be sure to watch...and congratulations to Mrs. Hild!! We are proud!!!

Congratulations to Mr. Bill Freund
Mr. Freund on his award presented from the local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) organization during our Veteran’s Day prayer service on November 11th. His letter of nomination, written by Amy Keefer, very skillfully portrayed Mr. Freund as that talented teacher we all know. She stated that “Bill Freund exemplifies everything that this award honors and would be an excellent choice. In fact, he is well-known for his ability to promote patriotism in the classroom. His love of country and passion for helping his students truly grasp the privilege of living in America is the very essence of who Bill is, as an educator. It is the thread that connects all of his lessons about the history of our country. It is virtually impossible for kids to graduate from our middle school without a deep understanding of our democratic values and all that has happened (and continues to happen) to secure our freedoms.” Mr. Freund’s nomination will now go to the state level. Congratulations Mr. Freund!
State Level - Bill officially received his VFW Teacher's Award during a special banquet on February 10th. Congratulations to Bill on his dedication and passion for teaching about our great country and the men and women who serve!
