Parent Teacher Organization 

      The purpose of the PTO is to promote child growth and development in the home, school, church and the community, and the development of good parent-teacher relationships. We exist solely for the support of our school and children. All the money that we collect is returned to our school and to our children by way of the school directory, cultural arts programs, class parties, relative day, 8th grade graduation, parent education and other areas that might not be available otherwise.    

      The PTO board meetings are held during the school year on the 2nd Thursday of each month. The board meets at 6:00 pm and the meetings are generally held in the board room near the  school office.  Everyone is welcome to attend and share any concerns with the board. The PTO board is always looking for volunteers.

The following is a list of the committees with a brief description of some of their responsibilities. 

  President- The President oversees all operations, assuring stable communications between St. Therese staff (Principal and Vice Principal) and school families in regard to school functions. The president also presides over all monthly board meetings. 

Vice President- The Vice President works with the president to over see the committees and is the games chairperson for the annual St. Therese Ice Cream Social. The Vice President coordinates with the parish office and PTO officers to secure volunteers to run the games. The Vice President creates the monthly newsletters. 

Treasurer- The Treasurer maintains a record of all monies received, spent and maintains accurate balances in the checkbook. The Treasurer is also responsible to reimburse all approved expense receipts submitted by committee chairpersons. The Treasurer is also responsible to submit a proposed budget for up coming year. 

Secretary- The Secretary takes notes and types the minutes for each PTO general board meeting and distributes those minutes prior to next scheduled meeting. 

Historian - The Historian records school events in written and pictorial form. The historian book is displayed at open house. 

Art Coordinator - The Art Coordinator coordinates with the Art teacher on setting up and displaying the children’s artwork during Catholic schools week at Metro North Mall. The Art Coordinator coordinates the St. Therese Art Fair with the art teacher and will coordinate volunteers to help set up the art fair. 

Cafeteria Coordinator -The Cafeteria Coordinator collects volunteer names and available days to compile a calendar for the cafeteria staff and volunteers. 

Learn & Earn- Value-priced educational and family entertainment products that support learning and devote a big portion of the profits to support our school technology and media center.  

General Mills Box Tops - This committee sets up collection boxes at school and church, collects the box tops and mails to the appropriate company. This committee is also responsible for asking the teachers to make a wish list and to complete and turn in the appropriate forms. 

Campbell’s Soup Labels - This committee sets up collection boxes at school and church, collect the soup labels and mails to the appropriate company. This committee is also responsible for asking the teachers to make a wish list and to complete and turn in the appropriate forms. 

Cultural Arts- This committee coordinates with teachers on setting up Cultural Arts/Visual Arts programs that will fit into the current curriculum at St. Therese. They will act as liaison between staff and artists. 

Hospitality- This committee will provide refreshments at PTO general meetings/parent education nights. This committee will coordinate treats each month for the teachers’ birthdays and will provide refreshments for Special Relative’s Day.  

Library Coordinator- This committee will meet with the Librarian and be given directives for the volunteers. They will collect names and available days to compile a calendar for the Librarian. 

Media Awareness- This committee will provide monthly inserts/comments on up-coming movies/music/television identifying what to watch for and what may or may not be suitable for our children to watch or listen to. 

Parent Education –This committee sources possible speakers and topics, presents them to the board, then will book speakers once approved. This committee will send out informative flyers regarding speaker through school.   

PTO Liaison- This committee, along with the board members, acts as the nominating committee to fill all outgoing PTO positions.

Recycling- This committee is to assist the students & families to maintain or improve the quality of our environment at school and our community. 

Room Parents- This committee will sign up volunteers to be a room parent. They will draw one parent per classroom to be room parent and meet to discuss duties and procedures. 

School Aides- This committee is to collect volunteer names and available days to compile a calendar for the teacher and volunteers to assist in school. 

School Directory- This committee collects family information, changes and corrections and distributes the directories. 

Spirit and Pride – This committee coordinates ‘themed’ events in appreciation of the teachers. This committee will coordinate volunteers to assist in teacher appreciation week, principal day, secretary’s day and students’ birthdays. 

Spirit Sales- This committee coordinates the ordering, selling and the distribution of St. Therese uniforms as well the spirit items.  

Summer Tickets Sales- This committee contacts Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun and other possible organizations and coordinates the ordering and selling and the distribution of the summer tickets.  

Welcoming Committee – The Welcoming Committee works with the principal to provide information to the new school families throughout the school year.
